HUNTLEY – Thomas Scott said, “A man cannot leave a better legacy to the world than a well-educated family.”
And if a library is not an extension of education, one that continues to give well after the years of the standard educational system are over, then what is?
With this in mind, the Huntley Area Public Library asks residents to consider donating to the library’s Creating a Legacy Fund.
With the Creating a Legacy Fund, donators are able to specify one of two categories their contribution will benefit: the building fund or whatever the library needs most.
Huntley Area Public Library Communication Development Coordinator Leigh Ann Porsch said that the Creating a Legacy Fund was created last October as part of the library’s 20th anniversary to honor longtime Huntley Library supporter Hazel Klunken, who was an original founder of the library district in Huntley.
Upon Klunken’s passing, her family made a donation to the library in memory of Klunken, which supported the start of the Creating a Legacy Fund.
“We looked at the legacy that Hazel Klunken worked hard for in our community,” Porsch said. “It really stems from Hazel’s work and the hard work that she put into leaving her own legacy in the community.”
The Creating a Legacy Fund consists of six standard donation levels in which the Huntley Library will recognize with a plaque on the Giving Wall located in the library’s foyer area and a seventh level for donations exceeding $50,000, which provides donators the opportunity to name portions of the building.
Donation levels are:
Scribe – $100 to $400
Poet – $500 to $999
Author – $1,000 to $4,999
Playwright – $5,000 to $9,999
Novelist – $10,000 to $24,999
Historian – $25,000 to $49,999
Porsch said the Creating a Legacy Fund has been well supported and that the donations have been steady.
“We want to encourage people to [like Hazel] create their own legacy,” Porsch said, “and support the library.”
