It’s all in the hat

By Chris La Pelusa

SUN CITY – According to Sun City resident Dolores Boychuk, N.7, being a member of the Red Hat Society is as fun and colorful as the big red hats and purple outfits they wear. In fact, said Boychuck, Queen Mohter of the Sun City Chapter, fun and colorful is what the Red Hat Society is all about.

“It’s having fun. It’s a friendship of people who can let go of being stiff and just enjoy [themselves],” Boychuk said, and added that it’s a way of maintaining youthful energy.

Recently, the Sun City Chapter of the Red Hat Society brought this youthful energy to the residents of Heritage Woods, located immediately north of Sun City on Regency Square Parkway, with Bingo and prizes.

“We were invited to go to Heritage Woods for lunch, and we felt that we would like to repay them in some way for having us,” Boychuk said.

Boychuk is one of the original members of the Sun City chapter. She took over as Queen Mother from the founding member eight years ago (in the chapter’s first year) after coordinating new membership and luncheons for the original Queen Mother while she was away for the winter.

“When she came back, she decided she no longer wanted to [be Queen Mother], so thusly, I inherited [the position],” Boychuk said. “We have fun. That’s what Red Hatters are, to have fun.”

Women interested in joining the Sun City Chapter of the Red Hat Society may contact Dolores Boychuk at 847-669-7029.
