SUN CITY – John Denver once wrote, with help from Placido Domingo, in his song, âPerhaps Love,â âPerhaps love is like a resting place, A shelter from the storm, It exists to give you comfort, It is there to keep you warm, And in those times of trouble, When you are most alone, The memory of love will bring you home.â This sentiment will spread across Sun City on Saturday, November 20 during the John Denver Tribute Performance at 7 p.m. in Drendel Ballroom.
Tom Becker grew up listening to John Denver. âHe was one of the reasons why I wanted to play the guitar and sing,â said Becker.
In fact, Tom Becker wrote a song entitled âSailor,â which was written using the language and style of a John Denver song. âI had the opportunity and the privilege to sing that song at the dedication, [of the United States Navy Memorial in Washington D.C.],â recounted Becker.
In his continued support of honoring our Navy Veterans, Becker actually ran into the Sun City resident Jim Brown during a Navy Reunion Dinner in Myrtle Beach. Brown was so impressed with Beckerâs portrayal of John Denver that he told Becker, âHe was so good…he could hang his hat at my house,â when Becker visited Sun City.

âI felt that recently his music wasnât being heard,â divulged Becker. Despite this, John Denverâs music is obviously still cherished in the hearts of many a Sun City resident. Not only is it cherished in the hearts and minds of the members of Sun City but in people around the world. His music was so genre-defining and popular that in 2007 John Denverâs Song âRocky Mountain Highâ was declared Californiaâs state song.
So if youâre looking to have your heart strings plucked, your ears serenaded, and your soul refreshed, then it is a good bet youâll want to see Tom Becker sing at the John Denver Tribute Performance in Sun City on November 20th.
âIâm looking forward to…seeing the folks there,â imparted Becker.
