Just wanted to take advantage of your paper to say a special “thank you” to residents of neighborhood #9 that shovel their walkways.  It is just so nice to be able to walk down the sidewalk on these winter days.  As a matter of fact, there is a whole row of houses on Golf View where you can walk for almost a full block!  In addition to myself, my dog, Parker really appreciates it too!  I just can’t imagine how the people that deliver the “LifeStyles” door to door manage each month. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you, Chris, for this community paper.

Folks have indicated that they stopped going to the Grill because it was starting to look shabby.  I headed a committee of five who were given the task of redecorating the Grill. We worked diligently for 5 months with painters, carpet merchants, and a designer from Interior Motives.  We wanted to give the restaurant an updated look in every area-walls, carpet, and drapery. (Brian was going to take care of the furniture). My group was not allowed to present our plan to the board. Dave Osborn, director of facility maintenance, presented our plan. We were told that our plans were scraped because the board didn’t like our carpet choice. We could have easily looked into another carpet, but were never asked to do that. Incidentally, our entire new decor would have saved the community $44,000 because we were under the budget we were given. Go figure! “So now you know the rest of the story.”

Dear Chris:

First of all, I apologize for the delay in getting this to you but my year started off with a bang, and I have hardly had a chance to slow down and get this done.

I am from St Mary’s Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666 and worked with the Woodchucks to assist us in replacing nativity set pieces for the Church, a tall order considering the size and number of the pieces.  The Woodchucks cut the template pieces out of four 8’x4′ plywood sheet templates for the large and small nativity sets, over 40 pieces, plus 25 replacement pieces from three 8’x4′ sheets of PVC.  Our council is grateful for the support of the Woodchucks, especially Tom Muerder and Karleen Kurtz, who gave hours of their time to cut the pieces of various sizes.  To show our appreciation, our Council decided to make a $200 donation to the Woodchucks for their Community Toy Project.  In the attached picture, from left to right, are Al LaPalusa, Woodchuck Community Director, Karleen Kurtz, Tom Muerder, and myself, after I had just presented to the Woodchucks our Council’s check and certificate of appreciation.

Sincerely,
Guy B. DeMaertelaere
