For more than 37 years, Labels for Education has been awarding free educational equipment to schools in exchange for proofs of purchase from the Campbell family of brands. Today, over 60,000 schools and organizations are registered with Labels for Education, benefiting more than 42 million students. Over the years, they have been able to provide more than $110 million in merchandise to America’s schools. Similarly, another organization called Box Tops for Education has provided $300 million dollars for schools.
Sun City resident Carole Janninck sent in the following story about her experience with Labels for Education.
“I’ve been saving Labels for Education for many years,” relates Carole. “All four of our grandsons took labels to school. On December 2, 2010, I received a letter from Labels for Education saying that I had been selected as a potential Grand Prize Winner of Jewel / Labels for Education Back to School Sweepstakes. I had to fill out some paperwork to be eligible for First Prize of $15,000, Second Prize of $10,000, or Third Place of $5,000 for the school of my choice.”
Carole just laughed and said, “Oh sure I can.”
Carole chose her granddaughter Sarah’s school. On February 22, 2011, Sarah called Carole and said that her school won Second Prize of $10,000. The school was sent a catalog to choose whatever they wanted. Carole says that she will continue to save the labels and send them on to the grandchildren. She also mentioned that our Huntley Library saves them as well.
In today’s dire economic environment, funding for schools is being cut drastically. While not every school wins in the School Sweepstakes, it is nice to know that there are programs such as Labels for Education (www.labelsforeducation.com) and Box Tops for Education (www.boxtops4education.com) that can ease the burden and provide much needed school equipment.
We can all join with Carole and do our part. If you don’t have grandchildren to get involved in the process, take your labels and box tops to the Huntley library, or check with your neighbors who can forward them to their grandchildren. We CAN make a difference.
