Prostate health lectures and support

MCHENRY — Centegra Health System hosts comprehensive prostate health support services for area residents who are interested in maintaining good prostate health or who are impacted by prostate cancer.

In partnership with Wellness Place in Palatine, prostate-related lectures are offered on the first Thursday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center – Huntley. One-on-one consultations are offered by appointment from 1 to 4 p.m. at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center – Huntley on the third Thursday of each month.

Current lecture offerings include:

Thursday, May 5: “A Discussion on Pharmaceuticals”
Thursday, June 2: “Quality of Life After Prostate Cancer? Great!”

The lectures are offered as a series, however attendance at all three lectures is not mandatory. Lectures and the one-on-one consultations are provided by Russ Gould, Wellness Place prostate cancer specialist, 13-year advanced prostate cancer survivor and cancer advocate with the National Institutes of Health. All sessions are offered at no charge. Preregistration consultation is required for the lectures and the one-on-one by calling 877-CENTEGRA (236-8347). Light refreshments will be served during the lectures.Wellness Place provides education, counseling and support for those affected by cancer. Cancer-related discussion and support groups provide a confidential atmosphere for cancer survivors, family and caregivers to discuss issues related to the illness. Discussions may include key components of prostate cancer management; practical problems such as managing side effects; and maintaining a balance between work, family and treatments. Set your sights

Rockford Center for Sight & Hearing vision rehabilitation therapist Barbara E. Schlomann will speak 10 a.m. Monday, April 18 at a Sun City low vision group.  Schlomann will be demonstrating low vision devices, discussing Center for Sight & Hearing services, and offering New Vision Classes. 

People who have Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, or other low vision challenges are welcome to attend this free event. 

Schlomann holds a Masters of Science from NIU – Vision Impairment Program, and a BA from National-Louis University – Applied Behavioral Science.

This meeting is presented by Sun City Huntley’s Visually Impaired Support and Assistance Group (V.I.S.A.).  The 1 hour presentation starts 10 a.m. sharp at Prairie Lodge’s Drendel Ballroom Breakout Rooms.
