New healthcare center to provide services despite patient’s ability to pay

MCHENRY – Greater Elgin Family Care Center has begun construction of the McHenry Community Health Center at 3901 Mercy Drive in McHenry. Construction began on March 31.

“We are very excited that construction of the McHenry Community Health Center has begun” said Bob Tanner, President/CEO of Greater Elgin Family Care Center. “This Health Center will create additional access to quality, affordable primary health care for the area’s uninsured, publicly insured, and underinsured residents, all regardless of their ability to pay.”

The McHenry Community Health Center is projected to open in the first two weeks of October 2011. With 14 examination rooms, it is to be open 6 days a week, including Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The McHenry Community Health Center will offer pediatric care, obstetric and gynecological care, and family medicine. Greater Elgin Family Care Center and Centegra Health System have held conversations regarding laboratory and radiology services and hospital admission and discharge procedures for the Center’s patients.

The building’s design includes many ‘green’ technologies in the areas of energy efficiency and mechanical, heating, cooling, lighting, water conservation, and storm water management systems.

Funds for the construction of McHenry Community Health Center, just one Health Center operated by Greater Elgin Family Care Center, were received through a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act via the Health Resources Services Administration. Partial operating support is projected to be received by the Bureau of Primary Health Care.
