This month we start off with one from Elba of N33. She writes: “A recent Saturday I was to pick up my husband Arnold at the Anderson Car dealership in Crystal Lake where he went to take our daughter’s car for service. He went on ahead of me, but I went to the Honda dealership instead (also in Crystal Lake), parked, got out, talked to one of the sales people, whom we know, started walking towards the service department, AND THEN THE LIGHT WENT ON: I was supposed to go to Anderson! So, laughing all the way, I returned to my parked car. When I arrived at Anderson, I was still laughing and I began telling my husband Arnold about my little detour, only to hear him tell me that he had done the same, except that he did not get out of the car!!”
Our neighbor and fellow Mexican Train player Lorraine told me about a friend who has a pacemaker and twice took it to the doctor because she was hearing a beeping sound. Both times, the doctor said there was nothing wrong with the device. Later, the friend realized that the beeping was coming from their carbon dioxide detector.
Neighbors Esther and Stan contributed this true story. They had just gotten on I-90 to spend Mother’s Day with their grandchildren, when a car driving on their right started honking his horn. The driver was pointing to the rear of the car. They thought the door might be open. When they pulled over to the shoulder, then lo and behold, the WELCOME mat bought the night before was just where they had left it, on the trunk and, minor detail, forgotten to bring it into the house. Luckily, it was heavy duty and had not fallen off.
Finally, fellow tennis player Joyce told me about the time when she was on one of the courts playing doubles when one of the other players stopped and looked puzzled. She was staring at a banner on the fence left over from a tennis club event held recently. The banner had the name of a local realtor who had sponsored the event. Joyce’s friend turned to her and asked “Is this court for sale?.”
I’m still waiting for one from you. I know you have “moments.” Send them to me at greengeezer9@comcast.net. I look forward to hearing from you.
