After running the article titled âHome value down, property taxes up, residents want answersâ in the May 19 edition of the Sun Day we received several phone calls and emails regarding the same two points that we feel need clarifying.
It was commented to us that the article stated that property taxes in Grafton Township decreased. The article actually states that due to the taxing system used by the Grafton Township assessor property taxes in Grafton Township didnât rise as much as those Rutland, which is true, but still did rise.
It was also commented to us that the Sun Day made an error in reporting that âAnd so let me give you an example: on the Kane County tax bill, the district tax rate is $4.95 combined. On the McHenry County tax bill, for the school district combined, itâs $4.81. So itâs about 2.9 percent or 14 cents higher than it should be.â This information is currently being checked on by Sun Day staff, however it was a direct quote by D-158 CFO Mark Altmeyer, not direct reporting by the Sun Day.
We apologize for any misunderstandings or confusion these two points may have caused readers.
Thank you,
Chris La Pelusa
