Kathryn Beernink of Crystal Lake was honored last week at the Faith in Action National Network Conference in Oak Brook, IL for her service to the seniors of McHenry County.
Kathryn is a trained registered nurse who left her paid hospital position and joined the Faith in Action of McHenry County cadre of volunteers. Kathryn’s people skills serve her well, as she befriends senior neighbors who ask for her by name. Since 2005, Kathryn has served Faith in Action of McHenry County in almost every service category, including the governing board of directors.
According to one of Kathryn’s care recipients, she “has a heart of gold and does so much for me … takes me places, shopping, doctors, even to the cemetery. If it weren’t for her, I could not go anyplace and would be trapped here. I don’t know how to explain it, but if you could say from the bottom of my heart I thank God for her, she is my guardian angel.”
