Bad weather doesn’t stop Stings from medaling

The Stingrays’ second swim meet of the summer took place on Tuesday, August 23, at Homewood-Flossmoor’s Park District’s “Senior Fun Day,” located at their Lion’s Park. The only outdoor meet for the Stings’ was fraught with dark clouds, thunder, and lightning. The bad weather didn’t appear, however, until the five Stings present were able to capture a total of 17 medals: 10 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. Seven records were broken with the results of the meet as follows: Leading swimmer, Lisa Yost, won gold and broke a record in the 50 Backstroke, as well as earned gold and broke a record in the 50 Breaststroke. She also won gold in the 100 IM. Lisa won bronze and broke the record also in the 50 freestyle. Following close behind was Rhea Thomas who captured two gold medals and broke two records in the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle each. Rhea took a silver in the 100 IM and also took a silver in the 50 Backstroke where she also broke a record. Joanie Koplos earned a silver in the 200 Freestyle, as well as earned three bronzes in the 50 Backstroke, in the 50 Breaststroke, and in the 100 Freestyle. Veteran tanker, Joe Loughlin, won gold and broke a record in the 50 backstroke. He gained two golds in the 50 Breaststroke and in the 50 freestyle each. Also veteran swimmer, Joan Souchek, took home two golds in the 50 freestyle and in the 50 backstroke each. At the meet’s conclusion, Homewood-Flossmoor’s Coach Eric welcomed all sheltered participants to enjoy his grilled hamburgers and hot dogs as “the rains came down.”
