Log cabin convenience

By Brad Wagner

ELGIN – Convenience is something that most people tend to take for granted. Most days we can hop in our car and, in ten minutes, are surrounded by big-box stores that sell just about anything that we could ever need. So that begs the question of what folks are supposed to do when they find themselves awash in a sea of houses with nary a store in sight? Well, if you live between Randall Road and 47 in Udina, then you should head on down to Plank road, where you will find Sun City resident Cindy Kamijima of Neighborhood 11 running The General Store of Udina.

Kamijima opened the store because, “[I] was familiar with that kind of business.”

The General Store of Udina embodies heartwarming customer service and a unique location that is sure to illicit a smile.

“It’s a log cabin out in the middle of nowhere,” said Kamijima.

The store is about 600 square feet, but don’t let that small size fool you, because Kamijima utilizes every square inch of her store’s space to serve her customers.

“[We’re] more friendly, I think,” said Kamijima.

Kamijima’s store is really one of the only stores that would have whatever item you needed to dash out the door for.
