Asking for “community support for a dog park in Sun City” is way premature. The article implies that, based on the information provided, residents should decide now to be for such a project or against it.
I believe, however, the answer is: IT DEPENDS. Too many important facts are missing for an informed decision to be made. And, it appears, the facts are missing because no one has done research. Who would be liable? Where is there sufficient space for a dog park plus the vehicle parking that would be necessary? Would this be proposed as an amenity like the pool or the tennis courts? If so, what additional cost would all residents expect? Would there be a user fee? What percentage of homeowners own a dog? Of those, how many expect to use a dog park since Ms. Gillham states, “…the dog park can be rather small”? What is the approximate cost of construction? Upkeep of the fence and parking area? Would there be a sidewalk for easy human access?
The question instead, I suggest, should be: Who might be interested in researching the possibility of a dog park within our confines? Then the question to the Board of Directors could be: We have a group ready to do the research; how should we proceed? This might be better than simply repeating, “I want a dog park.”

A parade of thank yous
We want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s and previous years’ Golf Cart Parade. We have had fun doing it for 11 years for the residents and their families. We used to have 54 golf carts, and we only had 20 this last parade. And the numbers keep getting smaller. We have told the CAM dept. that we will no longer do the parade and maybe they can come up with something new for our community. But we do want to thank all those who decorated their carts or just joined in and didn’t decorate and all those who watched the parades. We especially want to thank the police and fire departments for participating in the parade. We can’t forget the Sun Day paper for advertising the golf cart parade. Thank you all for the good memories related to the golf cart parades.
