SUN CITY – You may have run into Larry Mann at Prairie Lodge and seen him perform his duties as Director of Building Services, but if you stop in to Drendel Hall on November 12, youâll see a whole different kind of performance from him.
As Director of Building Services at Sun City, Huntley, Larry Mannâs days are taken up with everything from assisting residents with room and party setups to handling the day-to-day mechanical and maintenance requirements of a 140,000 square foot facility to helping bands and other performers set up their sound systems, conducting sound checks or picking up a last-minute socket or sprocket or extension cord. And the nature of these sorts of things is that they are almost never âon a scheduleâ but instead drop in on him like an unwelcome relative or ring his phone like a maddened robocaller.
It can be a very hectic, frenetic and, certainly, stressful place to be.
So what does Larry do to relax? What does he do when he wants to get away from it all? He hoists out his own amplifier, his guitars, his microphones, and all manner of assorted rock ân roll gear and, with four other good and multi-talented friends, goes on a Voyage!
Performing: Voyage
When: Doors open for dinner at 5 p.m., cash bar until 5:30 p.m. Voyage takes stage at 7 p.m.
Where: Drendel Ballroom
Tickets: $28 per person. Can be purchased by calling CAM Desk at 847-515-7650
Voyage is a five-member rockinâ-and-rollinâ time machine which transports its fans back to the era of the 70s and 80s in the form of a âClassic Arena Rock Show.â Made up of five respected and experienced rockers, the band has headlined at numerous major Festivals, including the Taste of Chicago and Wauconda Fest, and have also âopenedâ for acts like Darryl Strummer & Genesis Rewired, Jim Peterik and the Ides of March, the Guess Who and Foghat.
As Larry puts it, âI love every minute of it and wouldnât change a thing.â
Whatâs not to love?
As of November 12, the band will also be able to add Sun City to its impressive list of venues, as they perform a full-out Dinner & Rock âN Roll Show at Drendel Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. with a cash bar until 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner provided by Jamesons. Dinner will include Chicken Marsala, tossed salad, mashed potatoes, mini desserts, and coffee service.
Then at 7 p.m., Voyage will take to the stage performing songs by artists like Journey, Bon Jovi, Survivor, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, UFO, REO, and many more. Cool door prizes will also be awarded in the course of the two-hour show. Tickets for the dinner show are $28 and can be purchased by calling the Sun City Members Service Desk at 847-515-7650.
Put on your traveling shoes. This is a show you wonât want to miss.
