N16 Korean Veteran Honored Twice
My husband, Steve Dolewski, is a Korean Veteran who served active duty in 1952 with the Army Forward Artillery Battalion. He is a member of the VFW Post 5151 in Streamwood, IL and the American Legion in Huntley, IL.
On September 30, 2011, thanks to our son, Steve was selected to be an honored veteran at the Friday night televised Blackhawk/Pittsburgh game at the United Center, Chicago, IL. He and active Airforce Cpl. Ms. Sutton stood at attention on the red carpet while Mr. Jim Cornelison sand the National Anthem. Steve is an avid Blackhawk fan, so this was a tremendous privilege for him.
On October 4-7, 2011, we took a bus trip with Joe and Ann Scorn (all four of us from Sun City) to Niagara Falls. While waiting in line to board the boat for a Maid of the Mist tour, a group of approximately 25-30 Korean visitors came down the boat ramp, and when they saw Steve wearing his Korean Veteran Hat, the men began to salute him, the women wanted to hug him and have their picture taken with him, and then they all applauded. It was very emotional and an experience we will never forget.
South Korea is truly a country that is forever grateful for the freedom and prosperity they enjoy thanks to our military men and women who fought for them. We were told they teach their children what our military personnel sacrificed so that they never forget.
Mrs. Barbara Dolewski
