To provide a safer environment for Sun City’s swimming pools, Stingrays’ Head Swim Coach, Chris Hinde, recently invited swim club members to participate with him and Assistant Coach, Len Lencioni, to become certified in Elementary Forms of Survival, Water Rescue, and Pool Entries. This included a 5 hour instructional program which involved 3 sessions at Huntley/Centegra’s deep water pool and 1 session at Prairie Lodge’s pool.

Saving the victim from on deck or in the pool using a dry towel or various forms of flotation equipment, as well as the human chain, was included in the instruction and the testing. During and after rescue, the Stings’ present learned to assess the condition of the drowning person and what to do with him/her after the assessment. Appropriate pool entries were also taught. How to self-survive in deep waters concluded the program.

After passing a written test, the following Stingrays received certification: Caryl Fabian, Bud LaBrant, Margaret Liedtke, Ginny McCann, and Joanie Koplos.
