A good, old-fashioned thank you in this modern age

By Chris La Pelusa

Last week, right in the middle of what we at the Sun Day refer to as our “production week,” and what I refer to as “pull-my-hair-out week,” things got tough, and my computer apparently caught the worst or one of the worst (or what I came to think of as the devil of all) computer viruses, which ultimately left me broken down on the side of the editorial road. But you know what they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

I made several attempts to repair my computer and managed, I think, to only make matters worse, chasing that virus in and out of Windows and everywhere else I could navigate until I was too turned around to go back to where I started. I was lost. Worse, my computer went from poorly operating to downright inoperative, when I could no longer turn it on.

I knew the hard drive needed to be wiped, and it took me a long time to acknowledge that hard truth. I’m adept at doing this but without being able to access my system (yes, even through safe mode), I could only do one thing. I turned to the Sun Day for help and found an ad for Steve’s Computer Repair, a former advertiser of ours.

I called Steve Vishoot right away, and he accepted me, my computer, with as much aid and bedside manner you’d expect from a top-notch doctor. I explained my problem, he acknowledged everything I said with a sympathetic and professional ear, and I brought my computer over to him. Ultimately, Steve lived up to all my expectations and within the day, and for a reasonable rate, fixed my system as good as new. The computer (a new, expensive, and powerful Gateway) now operates better than it did before The Crash.

However, I wasn’t up and running yet. I needed some tweaking and added help for file recovery and location, so I contacted the Jack of All Trades, my brother-in-law, Erika’s brother, Ryne. Despite that I back up everything and informed Steve of the files I hadn’t backed up so that he could back them up, I still thought I lost some important info. Ryne, however, located every last drop of material, between the hours of 12 and 4 a.m., at that.

I can honestly say that without the help of Steve from Steve’s Computer Repair (847-721-9685) and Ryne (sorry, he’s not available for hire!), you would not be reading the Sun Day’s Christmas Edition now. Thank you Steve Vishoot and Ryne.
