PTAG (Property Tax Action Group) consists of Sun City residents who are working to (a) keep property taxes down and (b) seek equity and fairness in assessments.
It performed a useful contribution when it organized a presentation last June in Drendel Ballroom that explained what happened in the 2010 assessments and taxes (those received in 2011). It possibly can claim a small share of credit for the current flat levies in some of our taxing districts; its members appeared at various board meeting and encouraged the trustees and board members to hold the line on levies.
Actions of the group include:
— establishing relationships with area legislators and appointed officials involved in the real estate tax cycle,
— making our voices heard at the meetings of taxing districts,
— seeking equity in assessments within tax districts,
— proposed specific methods for fairer state-imposed multipliers,
— assisting residents in their appeals,
— petition for apportionment,
— organizing programs of educational value related to real estate taxes
— laying the groundwork for methods to assist assessors
— working on forcing implementation of the statutes which allow the use of comparables in the same tax districts across township lines.
