Clarification on previous Frugal Forum column
I am responding to David Kirk’s letter published in Hang Your Hat in the Sun Day of 9/13/12. David commented on my Frugal Forum 9/6/12 article on Debt Free America. I have since corresponded with David to determine his source of information that the proposed HR1125 bill proposed by Congressman Fattah had “died in committee” like a similar bill introduced in the previous congressional session. Mr. Kirk is correct that the previous bill had died in committee. However, the current proposal HR1125 is still sitting in committee and has not been acted upon. I explained to Mr. Kirk that the reason I wrote the article, and the reason for my concern, is that the current bill has not died in committee after having been proposed 18 months ago. It is still an active agenda item on Congressman Fattah’s initiatives. I did thank Mr. Kirk for sharing his additional information and perspective. Keep those letters coming, folks.

Many moons ago, after years of sitting on hard bleachers at Algonquin Middle School and Jacobs High School watching my children participate in sports, I made the decision to never again park this old butt on a hard bleacher seat and cheer on an amateur sports team. With few exceptions (grandkids sporting events) I held firm. At least, until this year.
A baseball team, The Cutters, was formed in Neighborhood 35, wearing orange shirts and sponsored by Chris’ Lawn Service. Quite a few of the N.35 residents attended the first Cutters game, and we sure had fun. We watched the game, chatted, laughed and made new friends. We groaned when a batter struck out, when a ball dropped in the outfield in front of a player, and when a player over threw a base. But we had fun and we came to cheer the Cutters on at all their games. We became, as Jim Eggers stated in a recent letter, athletic supporters.
We are grateful to the Cutters and to Chris for providing us with a summer of entertainment. The temperature may have been 90+ degrees, but the Cutters showed up ready to give their all, and so did their fans. We are the newest Sun City neighborhood and the Cutters did more to unite us as a neighborhood than any other function could have done. For that, we thank you. May your bruises fade and your Achilles heal. And like another local team, “wait until next year.” We love you Cutters, oh yes we do.
