Here is a news flash for you! The economy is not doing well. Surprise…we all know that, right? Well, apparently not everyone knows this. Try the finance committee at Del Webb. They have a proposed budget to increase the salary and wages of the employees by 3 percent. Our social security only rose 1.7 percent. I attended the budget meeting at Del Webb both in the morning and the evening. There are many aspects of the budget that I do not agree with. The following are some of the budget items that I do not agree with.
The proposed budget is $2,501,280 for 2013, up from $2,446,394, an increase of $54,886. As a resident of Del Webb, I am still working full-time and have taken a pay cut twice in the past three years. Companies are slashing salaries and cutting out overtime and giving no incentives other than to say, “Be glad that you have a job!” Why should we consider an increase in salary and wages in this economy? All salaries and wages should be frozen!
The next item in the budget plan is this “Employee Incentive Plan.” This item that they are proposing is for $127,313. I was told by the finance committee that this is not a bonus but an incentive to pay the employees for “doing a good job.” Why do we have to pay an incentive for doing a good job? We should consider dropping the incentive plan out of the budget at this time.
If you feel as I do, that this budget is out of control, here is your chance to do something about it. Call or email all the board of directors of Del Webb and tell them that you do not approve of this budget or this incentive plan. Your board of directors was voted in by you and they would appreciate hearing from you. The board of directors phone numbers and email addresses are on the lower left side of page 6 in the November Lifestyles.
The deadline is November 30. The Board of Directors will vote on the budget then. Each and every year our assessments do go up. We always complain that we have no control over our government. We will all pay and keep on paying unless we speak up.
Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
