The teacher was conducting an American history class when she called on Johnny Smith.
“Johnny, give me the name of one person who signed the Declaration of Independence,” said the teacher.
“I didn’t do it, teacher,” said Johnny.
“Just for your fresh remark, I want your mother to come and see me after school tomorrow,” said the teacher.
The next afternoon, Mrs. Smith came to the classroom. Johnny had evidently told her of his problem. “Look,” said Mrs. Smith. “Johnny is a good, honest boy. Believe me, if he says he didn’t do it, he didn’t do it!”
