One of the reasons I love writing this column is that so many of you write me with your restaurant suggestions. Last month, one of my friends called to tell about the opening of a new restaurant in town. Sponsor’s Bar and Grill has taken occupancy of the space formerly housing Del Toro’s on Route 47 in Huntley. So, my softball buddies, Glenn Groebli and Tom Briglio, and I made a date to check it out on guy’s night out.
Sponsor’s consists of tables, booths, and bar seats with several big-screen TVs visible no matter where you sit. We were there on a Tuesday, which turned out to be taco special day. The beef tacos were $1, chicken tacos $1.75, and to wash them down, Corona beers, $3.
Glenn and I ordered one of each of the tacos, while Tom ordered the pulled pork sandwich for $9.95. Although his very tasty sandwich came with sweet potato fries, Tom felt it was not a good value. On the other hand, Glenn and I were very pleased with the quality and value of the tacos

10400 N. IL 47 in Huntley (847) 515-3310.
Value: 4/5
You can’t beat these taco prices anywhere, but the pulled pork was overpriced in Tom’s opinion.
Service: 2/5
Took the order quickly, but delivery was very slow.
Ambiance: 2.5/5
It’s a sports bar
Final comments:
I searched for their website but did not find one listed. They definitely need to get one up so that people can check out the daily specials. Perhaps by the time this review is printed, they might have a website active. Friday features an all-you-can-eat fish fry for $9.95. Also, Friday nights feature Karaoke starting at 9:30.
