SUN CITY- Many people have heard of Rosie the Riveter and seen the iconic illustration of Rosie flexing and looking ready to handle any task. But many also do not know the whole story of what Rosie really stands for.
On March 29, Lynn Rymarz tells the full story at her presentation titled “I am Rosie the Riveter.”
There will be a breakfast buffet held at 9 a.m. in the Prairie Lodge. Shortly after the breakfast, at 10:15, Rymarz will begin her presentation.
The concept of Rosie the Riveter as a woman was inspired by Geraldine Hoff Doyle. In 1942, Doyle was a recent high school graduate and factory worker when she became the face of the “We Can Do It” poster. This time was especially important to women because it was when women across the country took up a powerful movement and went to work while the men were away at war.
In her presentation, Rymarz will share the life story of Geraldine Hoff Doyle and talk about all the sacrifices she made in times when women did not have as many rights as they do today.
“I hope those who attend will learn about the sacrifices Americans made and find themselves encouraged and inspired,” Rymarz said.
Not only will Rymarz tell the story of Doyle, but she will also share stories of other “Rosies” in America. A “Rosie,” she says, is a woman that makes sacrifices in her country in order to make a difference.
