Nixle is an online application that describes itself as a “community information provider.” Nixle brings together agencies such as police/fire/utility services and organizations for us to get really useful information. And get this, you can receive this information in real time delivered directly to your cell phone with text messaging, emails, and accessing the app online. This is where my grandchildren’s help comes into play. Nixle is completely free for both government and individuals to use.
As an example of how Nixle works, recently there was a gas leak in the area of Jim Dhamer Dr. and Countryview Blvd. which necessitated the temporary closing of both streets. I received this information as it was happening via a text message on my phone.
Route 47 and Main Street in Huntley had a railway crossing gate malfunction that caused both streets to close. I again received this information in real time on my cell phone thus was able to avoid the area until both situations were corrected.
It’s easy to join, gives you pertinent information regarding our neighborhood, and it’s free. I am happy to say this service does not give you “spam” info but only as much information as you desire by your zip code. For more information, go to nixle.com. You will not be disappointed.
