What emergency you ask? Does someone need help? Did they call 911? My wife reminded me of a recent real life experience I would like to share with you.
While driving through Sun City on our way to our daughter and son-in law’s home for an evening dinner with our family, we noticed a home with the outside front coach emergency lights flashing.
Many of us in Sun City have the capability of activating the outside coach lights using an indoor switch located at the front door. For us it took us several tries to realize what the switch was for much less what it did. When activated, the lights give responding emergency crews an actual house location. Let me explain further:
As I mentioned, we noticed a home with the emergency lights flashing. We thought at first it was possibly a “misstep,” but being cautious (my wife was an emergency room registered nurse), we took the initiative of investigating further. We drove to the location of the flashing lights, and as I approached the front door, everything appeared normal. I rang the door bell, and an inquisitive woman’s face appeared behind the drapes.
Naturally, not recognizing me, she looked but did not open the door (smart). As I explained to her the reason for my concern, I noticed several small children in the background. As she opened the door, I pointed to the flashing lights, and she immediately replied, “My grandkids,” and I knew what she meant. Little hands pushing buttons that should not be pushed…
The moral of this story is that those of us with grandchildren should be aware of the things they can touch accidentally, but also we must not neglect pushing the button to activate the flashing lights when needed nor ignore the flashing lights of a neighbor. Be inquisitive. It could be a real emergency.
