Alden and Centegra moving through village approval process

By Dwight Esau

HUNTLEY – Huntley’s journey to become a major medical center has received two big boosts this summer from the Village of Huntley and a State of Illinois medical agency.

In June, Alden’s proposed senior living complex received unanimous approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board. This approval occurred somewhat unexpectedly, since reviews and approvals from the IHFBA sometimes take months.

The Huntley village board gave preliminary approval to Alden’s site plan and planned unit development on June 27. Final village approval of this comprehensive 170-bed project is expected to come later this year, and an Alden official said her company plans to begin construction in 2014.

Alden Realty Services plans to build skilled nursing and memory care facilities on a 14-acre site at the northwest corner of Regency Parkway and Princeton Drive. The project includes a 110-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility, a 60-bed memory care building, and a 91-unit independent senior living complex.

“I believe we received our approval from the state group so quickly because there is no skilled nursing care facility within 15 miles of the Huntley area, we are to be located just outside the largest senior community in the area, and we have operated rehabilitation and nursing care facilities throughout the Chicago area for many years,” Randi Schullo, president of Alden Realty, said. “The need for these kinds of facilities in the area is obvious, and the location is excellent.”

Centegra two months from groundbreaking

In July, after working for more than a year to receive Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approval for its proposed hospital at Algonquin and Haligus Roads, Centegra received preliminary approval for its 118-bed facility and medical office complex from the Huntley Plan Commission on July 22.

The commission recommended approval of Centegra’s site plan, special use for a heliport, and its planned unit development to the village board, which is expected to consider the recommendation in the next few weeks. Centegra officials hope to start construction sometime next year.

Centegra’s campus already includes an immediate care facility, a fitness center, and an outdoor swimming pool. Centegra operates other medical facilities in the Huntley area, partners with Sun City in a wellness center in Prairie Lodge, and operates a hospital on Route 14 in Woodstock. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new hospital is set for October 23.
