It is with deep regret that the Sun Day inÂforms its readers that Sun Day columnist and resident joke writer Paul Shumate passed away earlier last month. Paulâs columns were more than a highlight of the Sun Day. Paulâs jokes gave the Sun Day a touch of lightheartedness and color admist the black-and-white of editoÂrial news. Plenty of feedback over the years inÂformed us that Laughter By Paul was often the first column readers go to when they receive their latest copy.
Paul Shumate was one of the first columnists to approach the Sun Day and has been writing with the Sun Day since the first edition. That said, as the owner of the Sun Day, I would like to dedicate this 100th edition to Paul Shumate. The Sun Day wouldnât have had a sense of humor without him.
Paulâs wife informed us that Paul spent his last months writing and compiling his jokes. It is her wish that we continue his column, and the Sun Day is more than happy to oblige, so please look forward to more Laughter By Paul.
Once upon a time in their marÂriage, my Dad did something really stupid. Mom chewed him out for it. He apologized and they made up. However, from time to time, my mom still mentions what he had done.
âHoney,â my Dad finally said one day, âwhy do you keep bringing that up? I thought your policy was âforgive and forget.ââ
âIt is,â she said. âI just donât want you to forget that I have forgiven and forgotten.â
