EDGEWATERâ When the air turns crisp and leaves turn color, most women search their closets for clothing suitable for the incoming season.
What they find there may spur a desire to rush to the mall in search of new and more fashionable wardrobe items and accessories. At Edgewaterâs Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon, held on October 12 at Genevaâs Riverside Reception Center, the sold-out crowd of 170 ladies found they didnât have to look far to find some of the most flattering, trendy, and affordable styles available in the area today.
Fashions for the event were provided by Chicoâs of the Arboretum Promenade in South Barrington. The models were Edgewater residents Sue Rowe, Judi DiMonte, Ann Taylor, Patty Clinnin, Sandy Krug, Mary Cropsey, Sharon Fisher-Larson, Deb Nyari, Sandi Bowgren and Marta Wortman.
After a delightful lunch of butternut squash soup, chicken Waldorf salad, and cherry cobbler, as well as piano music by Edgewaterâs Evelyn Armstrong, the audience was treated to a parade of stylish outfits that would help any woman welcome the new season. The variety of clothing ranged from jackets, tops, vests, pants and jeans to scarves, belts, and dazzling jewelry suitable for day or evening, casual, or elegant occasions.
Outfits featured versatile items in neutral tones of browns, black, and gray that were shown with more lively coordinates and accessories in colors or prints â a most effective way to build excitement, while increasing the various looks and functions of each basic ensemble.
Luncheon attendees also enjoyed a demonstration of how to turn a rectangular scarf into either a vest or a shoulder wrap with carefully placed knots and artful arrangement.
Edgewater fashion show chairperson Judy Stoney introduced each model. A fashion expert from Chicoâs described each ensemble, its fabrics, feaÂŹtures and details, and suggestÂŹed situations in which it could be worn.
The models then made their way among the tables of guests so that spectators could appreciate the clothing up-close.
Since the programâs theme was âWhere Are You Going?â the fashions were selected for their versatility and ability to travel well. Some of the Edgewater models, it was noted, were planning trips for which the outfits they were wearing would be ideal.
Stoney said that the fashion show committee gave generously of their time and talents over several months to make the event happen, including selecting the new venue in Geneva, choosing the theme, seeking sponsors and models, and providing festive fall room decorations like colorful scarecrows, mums, pumpkins, and table favors of taffy apples.
Local sponsors, businesses, and individuals contributed monetary support, door prizes, or discount coupons. These included Genevaâs Janeen Home DĂ©cor, Strawflowers Shop, and Foxfire Restaurant; Chicoâs and the Eiffel Bistro/Wine Bar of the Arboretum in South Barrington; Porterâs Pub and Dairy Queen of Elgin; Acres Landscaping, Clinnin & Associates, Edward Jones, Visiting Angels of South Elgin, Allstate Insurance, Heritage Woods of Elgin, and Dynamic Designs Window Fashions of Hampshire.
Having enjoyed the luncheon, fashion show, and the ballroomâs view overlooking the Fox River, attendees left with happy memories of a delightful afternoon and hope in their hearts for the stylish enhancement of their wardrobes.
