Two-thirds of Sun City’s residents said on Oct. 16 that they didn’t want video gaming at Jameson’s Pub in Prairie Lodge. On Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23, the association board of directors agreed.
On a motion by board vice president Linda Davis, the board voted unanimously and officially to deny Jameson’s request to install up to five video gaming devices in its pub. The board’s action effectively makes Jameson’s pending request for a state gaming board license moot, since the board’s action trumps any state action.
About a month ago, Board President Bonnie Bayser said the resident sentiment on video gaming in a Sun City facility would be the determining factor regarding Jameson’s request. A yes-or-no question on the video gaming proposal was included in a resident mail survey. A total of 2,703 responses to the question were received on Oct. 16, along with the results of the annual election to elect directors to the association board.
A total of 1,748 residents (64.7 percent) voted no to video gaming, 747 voted yes, and 208 had no opinion or did not vote.
Six of the seven directors did not comment on their yes vote on the motion to deny the request. Board member Ralph Bergstrom said he decided to āput aside my personal feelings about this matter, and support a majority of my fellow residentsā on the issue.
Several other businesses in Huntley, including the Village Inn, Parkside Pub, Sponsor’s, and the American Legion Hall, have either applied for, or received state licenses to install video gaming devices in their establishments in recent months.
