HUNTLEY – Local firefighters on duty this Thanksgiving will not have to worry about missing out on turkey – or any of the trimmings – this year.
That’s because Sun City resident Jack Gilhooly is once again running his Buck in the Boot campaign. Now in its 13th year, Buck in the Boot gets its name quite literally from the boot of retired Huntley Police Chief Jim Saletta.
That boot is where residents drop in donations during all sorts of get-togethers and events around Sun City in the months leading up to Thanksgiving. Gilhooly will use those funds to purchase dinner and deliver it to Station #4 at Algonquin and Square Barn roads and the Huntley Fire District building on Main Street.
This year, the turkey dinner is supplied by Jameson’s, with Tom’s Market providing pies. Gilhooly joked that the firefighters should bring their own vegetables, as everyone has their own favorite.
