Cancer – it is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. with over 600,000 people a year dying from it in spite of radiation and chemotherapy, the major source of treatment. It is predicted that by 2030, cancer will become the number 1 cause of death, overtaking number 1 heart disease now. Forty-two percent of Americans living today can expect to develop some form of cancer in their lifetime. Over 4 million Americans are currently being treated.
German physician Otto Warburg was awarded a Nobel prize over 80 years ago for first uncovering cancer cells massive dependence on sugar as a fuel source. Even if we could say that sugar may or may not be involved with the development of cancer, once it takes over, sugar keeps it going much like pouring gasoline on a raging fire. Do you think this will change the clinical protocols for the oncologist even though Harvard researchers have confirmed this information? No way. Medical science will continue to kill cancer and the body because of all the big bucks, and we as dietitians will continue to feed sick patients sugar on their trays.
There is an ad on T.V. that appears frequently about a dietitian feeding her mother Boost because she wants her to have the best nutrition. The ingredients are water, sugar, corn syrup, and a list of at least ten more chemicals. Ensure is the same.
Here in Florida this winter, two very sick people with cancer were being fed Jevity, a liquid supplement made by Abbott Laboratories advertised to be high in protein and fiber. The main ingredients were corn maltodextrin, corn syrup solids, soy and polyunsaturated oils, as well as a long list of chemicals.
Forty percent of patients will die from malnutrition and chemicals used on the body to kill the tumors, not the cancer itself. As long as we spend big bucks for research to try and find a cure, we will not succeed. Again, we need to change our lifestyle and it is never too late.
