HUNTLEY – A fight at a home in the 11000 block of Morning Glory Lane in Sun City on Monday, May 26, escalated into a shooting that left one dead and two injured.

A preliminary investigation, according to a release from the Huntley Police Department, indicated that Mark Grundei, 50, and Robert Grundei, 48, had gotten into an argument, at which point a firearm was obtained. Mark, who lived at the residence with his 81-year-old mother, Alyce Grundei, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and as of press time is still being treated. Robert, who has since succumbed to his injuries, suffered a gunshot wound to his back. Alyce was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the head.

At approximately 5:09 p.m. on May 26, Huntley police responded to a report of a shooting and, upon arrival, according to an HPD press release, met with Alyce.

According to First Electric Newspaper, Huntley Chief John Perkins said officers discovered both men wounded but still alive in the kitchen. All three were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The article noted that police believe Robert was visiting to help with funeral arrangements for his brother, the late Brian Grundei, 45 of Deerfield, as well as to assist in the sale of the Grundei’s Sun City residence.

Brian was found drowned in a retention pond near his home on March 16, but police and coroner’s investigators did not suspect foul play.

Executive Director Lauren Lee said Sun City is saddened by the loss of life.

No other parties were believed to be involved in this incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Updated reports to follow.
