July 21, 1949 – Senate ratifies North Atlantic Treaty by a vote of 82-13 (NATO).
July 22, 1933 – Wiley Post completes first round-the-world solo flight. Post helped develop one of the first pressure suits and discovered the jet stream. On August 15, 1935, Post and American humorist Will Rogers were killed when Post’s aircraft crashed on takeoff from a lagoon near Point Barrow in the Territory of Alaska.
July 23, 0636 – Arabs gain control of most of Palestine from Byzantine Empire. The influence of the Moslem religion leads to all the conquered people “becoming” Arabs.
July 24, 1851 – Window tax abolished in Britain. When the real estate tax is based on the number of windows in the house, it does not take people long to block up windows.
July 25, 1952 – Commonwealth of Puerto Rico created (Constitution Day). It becomes a self-governing U.S. commonwealth the same day.
July 26, 1848 – First Woman’s Rights Convention (Senecca Falls NY). The ladies fight long and hard to gain the vote. The struggle for other rights continued.
