Sun City roundup: July 17, 2014

By Dwight Esau

Here is another Sun Day roundup of sound bite updates on current issues from sources at the Sun City association and the Village of Huntley.

The association board of directors expects to make a decision either later this month or in August on whether to renew the contract with First Service Residential (FSR) in 2015 and beyond, or make a change to another company. Nearly a dozen firms expressed initial interest in bidding, and the field has been narrowed to a final three. The current contract with FSR expires on Dec. 31 of this year.

Next, the association staff continues to have ongoing talks with both the engineering firm and the contractor that resurfaced and upgraded the Prairie Lodge parking lot last year. Many cracks in the final surface have appeared. “We are reviewing the warranty work and what that will encompass,” said Lauren Lee, executive director. “The work will not be accepted as it is.”

Here’s a reminder that resurfacing a portion of Del Webb Boulevard from the main entrance on Route 47 to Eakin Field Court near Prairie Lodge will begin by the village in August, as soon as McHenry County’s construction of the Main Street bridge near Coyne Station Road is completed. Traffic lights also are being installed at two intersections on Hemmer Road at Main Street and Harmony Road, for the purpose of expediting traffic to and from Huntley High School starting this fall.

Speaking of road construction, the Kreutzer Road extension has been completed and is now travel ready.

Finally, a reminder to many residents that have been asking, Alden plans to begin construction on its multi-faceted senior care and residential facility on Regency Square Parkway and Princeton Road will begin in 2015. “Alden is still working on some final approvals on its financing,” a village source told the Sun Day last week.

Lastly, in response to many Sun Day inquiries, no one in Sun City was willing to predict a World Series championship for the Cubs this year.
