Those dreaming of becoming a pilot can take the first steps toward attaining that goal on Sept. 13 in Ringwood, as the Chain O’Lakes Eagles hosts its 2014 R/C Air Fest.
Mike Schulz of the club said this is an event for RC (radio-controlled) to get together to show off their planes and flying skills. It also provides an opportunity to showcase this hobby to the public and even give them a chance to be able to fly an RC plane at the event.
âItâs really entertaining,â he says. âItâs a lot of fun for anyone who likes anything to do with airplanes. And itâs an exciting way to spend a little time outside.â
The event, which occurs Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the COL Eagles R/C Flying Field at 5707 Pioneer Road in Ringwood, is free and open to the public. In addition to food and drink being available for purchase, there is also expected to be a 50/50 raffle.
Schulz noted all planes will not be available for attendees to demo but there will be a couple of planes on hand for anyone who has ever wanted to try flying an RC plane.
In order to take control of the plane, though, those interested will have to fill out a form. However, Schulz noted it is open to everyone, stating kids will need their parentsâ permission.
âWhat we have is a buddy box system. It gives them the control of the plane, but we also have the ability to get that control back in case it heads into a hazardous situation,â he said.
There will also be demo flights from the clubâs more accomplished pilots, including a routine they have never performed before: âcoordinated acrobatic flying, which should be a lot of fun.â
Schulz added there will also be information on the club, as well as club officers on hand to talk to anyone interested in learning more about the club.
