The Sun City bocce club is celebrating 15 years of bocce playing in Huntley. On Aug. 26, 18 league winners competed in a single-game elimination tournament to determine the first place champion for 2014. We’re very excited seeing for the first time in our history of bocce in Huntley that Sandy and Don Ferrari as a first place repeat winner, defeating Jack Saporta & Harry Mandell, who finished as second place winners.
A large crowd watched the tournament on a beautiful summer night. Tom Hall Realty was there supporting our bocce club, serving all of us cold water, pop corn, and ice cream. We all had a great time. We held a banquet, general meeting, and awards presentation on Sept. 5 in Drendel Ballroom, with dinner served by Jamison’s. Over the years, this bocce charter club grew from 75 members to well over 700 at the present time. Ninety-five percent of the membership are scheduled to return and play bocce in Spring 2015.
