SUN CITY – Though it has started slowly, business is steadily growing at the new Sun City clinic, which opened in August in Prairie Lodge by the Centegra Health System.
The clinic is actually a modest but significant expansion of the Wellness Center, located next to the fitness center. It opened quietly on Aug. 18, but Centegra hoped to increase resident awareness and generate bigger attendance with a ceremonial grand opening that took place on Sept. 24.
The walk-in clinic offers modest, immediate-care services that treat common illnesses, minor wounds, injuries, and skin conditions and provide common vaccinations such as flu and tetanus. It also can do cultures, urine analysis, and prescribe medications. The facility is a response to resident requests for a walk-in clinic in recent years. It serves Sun City residents exclusively and charges fees for services in the same way it does at its larger immediate-care facility in Huntley.
“We have had some busy days so far, and some days with only one or two walk-ins,” said Gisenia Diaz, wellness team lead. “Our grand opening this week is designed to increase resident awareness of our new services.”
Earlier this year, construction began on Centegra’s new 128-bed hospital on its health campus in Huntley at Haligus and Algonquin Roads. This campus also includes a fitness center, physicians’ offices, imaging services, and a full range of immediate care services. Eventually, the hospital reportedly plans to offer shuttle service between this campus and Sun City’s clinic.
Wellness services at the Prairie Lodge location, which started in 2000, continue. These services include monthly visits by a psychologist, daily educational activities, and patient-operated, blood pressure screening opportunities.
