Two years ago, on Sept. 28, 2012, Huntley Radio (HCR) began streaming on the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It trained local residents and school and college students in the art of broadcasting. Over 35 original shows are aired at present with more shows being added every week.
As a birthday gift to the community, on Sept. 23, an FM antenna was hoisted and installed atop of the Huntley Water Tower at Kreutzer and Haligus Roads. On Wednesday, Sept. 24, all other necessary Low Power FM (LPFM) equipment was installed in equipment racks at the station’s location in Deicke Park and also inside the base of the water tower. The transmitter wasbe installed the week of Sept. 29. And on Friday, Sept. 26, high-speed Internet service between the station and the water tower was tested.
In early October, HCR will conduct extensive testing of the LPFM equipment and FM signal to comply with FCC requirements. Anticipating that the installation and testing period goes as planned, the FCC is expected to issue HCR its LPFM license by the end of October. Upon receipt of its FCC license, HCR will officially begin broadcastings its full line-up of programming 24 hours a day, 365 days per year with the call sign WHRU-LP at 101.5 FM.
