Huntley business continues to rise

Village sees more expansion in near future

HUNTLEY – Remember the Hollywood movie star pictures in the former Powell’s car wash on Route 47 in Huntley? As you waited for your vehicle to be cleaned, you could reminisce at pictures of Marilyn, James Dean, Bogie, Elvis, etc.

Powell’s has been gone for more than a year, and we miss the cinematic nostalgia. But is it possible that another film revival is coming to this site? The sign in front now says, “Coming Soon, Fast Eddie’s Car Wash.” There was a Fast Eddie in Hollywood history. In the Hustler, released in the 70s, Paul Newman’s character in the pool hall yarn was Eddie Felsen. Co-star Jackie Gleason’s character called him “Fast Eddie.”

But seriously, after many months of frustration, a car wash is coming back to Huntley and Sun City. It’s been a chore to go all the way to Randall Road in Algonquin to get our vehicles shined up. No timetable is set for this to happen, but as soon as we learn more, we’ll pass it on to you readers.

Another popular business is making news by announcing it is relocating soon. Culver’s restaurant plans to move a few blocks north from its present spot at Drendel’s corner at Oak Creek Parkway and Route 47 to a spot on the east side of 47 near Powers Road. Culver’s owner Bill Lock, who owns four Culver’s restaurants in the area, has a contract to purchase a lot. But no timetable has been set yet, since details have yet to be worked out among Lock, landowners, and the Village of Huntley.

For those of you who love to eat Italian, Jameson’s Charhouse (still going strong at Prairie Lodg) will open its second Huntley restaurant, Marsala’s Italian Kitchen, at the former Niko’s site on Freeman Road in mid-November. Renovations are well underway.

Business arrivals continue to enliven Huntley’s commercial scene. Morkes Chocolates will be moving soon from Algonquin to Huntley’s downtown square.

Aldi Foods and Brunch Cafe recently opened to large, enthusiastic crowds earlier this month in the Regency Square complex, and other new businesses in town are Royal Patchwork and Hollywood Nail & Spa.
