SUN CITY – Last year, the Sun City Concert Band brought in over 500 people with their concert featuring their greatest hits from their last 10 years of practicing. However, much has changed since last year’s performance, according to the group president, Jerry McClellan.
The band, which started over 11 years ago, was originally a group of 11 musicians who all found joy in music but has since grown exponentially in numbers.
“The quality of the musicians and the quality of music difficulty has changed,” said McClellan. “We are a much more accomplished concert band.”
If any change could be considered the biggest, it is their election of a new concert director, Pam Jorgensen. Her ideas have shaped this year’s concert theme to be that of ‘Hollywood Holidays.’
The first half of the concert will feature songs from movies including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Polar Express, and other well-known films. For the second half, the concert will perform classic Christmas songs such as “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” as well as a Hanukkah medley.
The Prairie Singers Winter Holiday Concert will be 3 p.m. Sunday, December 7 in Drendel Ballroom. Tickets are on sale for $10 per adult and $3 for children 12 and under, available at the door. The concert band expects over 600 people to attend.
If you’ve seen one concert, you haven’t seen them all. Each year the band brings new diversity to their performance.
“Every one of our concerts are a little different than the last. We like to play things differently each time,” said McClellan.
