The latest break-in information in Sun City provides both good and bad news.
The bad news is two break-in attempts were made Jan. 23 to homes in the 13000 block of Shirley Lane (N5), and the 13000 block of Ivy Drive (N33). The good news is the offenders were unable to gain entry to the homes, although they did damage a door on each home.
“In both instances, the homeowners were out of the house, running errands during the day,” said Huntley Police Sgt. Leonard J. Marak. “These attempted burglaries are again similar in nature to the other ones experienced in Sun City in recent years.”
In one of the homes, Marak told the Sun Day that the homeowner had installed larger and longer screws in the strike plate on the front door latch. “This prevented entry to the home, even though the door and frame were slightly damaged,” he said. “In the other instance, we don’t know if any specific preventive measures at or near doors were in place.”
Sgt. Marak also said one witness reported seeing a male driving in the area in a newer white SUV or mini-van. “It is unknown if this vehicle was driven by the offender, however,” he said. “There is no license plate information available on this vehicle.”
These incidents raise the number of burglary incidents in Sun City to more than 20 since 2011.
