In memoriam: Virginia “Ginny” Winkelstein

By My Sunday News

Virginia “Ginny” Winkelstein, age 71, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21 while at home. Ginny was born on July 1, 1943 in Elgin, the daughter of Virginia and Ellis Bilisoly. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1961 and then earned her RN degree from Copley Hospital in Aurora in 1965. After graduation, she worked at Rush Presbyterian hospital. Ginny met David A. Winkelstein while delivering a baby together at Chicago Maternity Center, and they married on June 13, 1965 in Skokie. They settled in the Chicago area, and she was a homemaker, talented artist, and calligrapher, avid volunteer and dedicated mother to two children.

Ginny loved life, art, friends, and family. She lived life to the fullest and often was caught burning the candle at both ends. She was a talented, creative calligrapher, and also was very active in community theatre. Her interests and passions were endless, as was her energy. Her art was often an expression of her feelings for her friends and family – and we will all treasure the memories and crafts she shared with us as an expression of her love.

Ginny was a dear and cherished friend. She touched many lives and had many close and special friendships.

Ginny loved her grandchildren and was always ready and excited to spend time with them. She would play games, invent craft ideas, and engage in their interests at every age. She was a very loving “Nana” and very loved in return.

Virginia “Ginny” E. Winkelstein, nee Bilisoly, 71, beloved wife & best friend of Dr. David A. for nearly 50 years; loving & devoted mother of Joy (Steve) Baer & Jill (Aldo) Lopez; cherished Nana of Sydney & Lewis Baer; treasured sister of Ellis (Hattie) & the late Richard (the late Shirley) Bilisoly; dear aunt & friend of many.
