According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) the following are the dirty-dozen food additives. These have all been banned in other countries, and they have no business being in our foods.
– Nitrites & Nitratesāa synthetic preservative added to hotdogs, bacon, and deli meat. These inflict cellular damage and have been linked to cancer.
– Potassium Bromateāput in breads, hamburger and hotdog buns. It is linked to kidney, endocrine, and nervous system damage
– Propyl Parabenāan endocrine disruptive food preservative
– Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)āa preservative affecting the neurological system of your brain and alters oneās behavior. According to the U.S. Department Human Services, it may be a cancer agent.
– Butylated Hydroxy Toluene (BHT)āsimilar to BHA.
– Propyl Gullateāpreservative to prevent fats and oils from spoiling and is associated with tumors
– Theobromineāan alkaloid found in chocolateāsimilar effects to caffeine. Added to bread, cereals, and sport drinks
– Natural & artificial flavorsāthe label doesnāt reveal what it actually means but could be a blend of many chemicals. Does not usually mean it is something like real strawberry, garlic, or spices. These are made in a lab and are not real food.
– Artificial colorsāevery year food manufacturers pour 15 million pounds of artificial dyes into our foods, some of which are:
Red dye #40, triggering hyperactivity in children
Blue dye #2, used in candies & beverages and linked to brain tumors
Yellow dye #5, used in baked goods, candies, cereals. Linked to cancer and behavior.
Caramel color used in brown colas.
– Diacelylāartificial butter flavoring used in microwave popcorn and to flavor dairy products like yogurt & cheese. May trigger Alzheimerās, a threat to brain health and respiratory damage.
– Phosphatesāadded to 20,000 products to reduce acid, improve moisture. Linked to heart disease and mental conditions.
– Aluminum additivesāused as stabilizers. These metals accumulate in the bones and also cause neurological damage.
There are many more. I encourage you every time you pick up something to buy that you first read the ingredients. Return the item to the shelf if there are more chemicals than food. Go back and look at all the symptoms and diseases that you may be experiencing. Think about all the times you run to the doctor to get a prescription or you take an over-the-counter drug. Both of these add to the toxins. The purpose of this series is to let you know that it is a toxic body you have, and we will cover more on altered foods and how to heal the body. We can restore our bodies to health and perhaps feel better than we have for a long time.
