Relay for Life is scheduled to take place on June 12, starting at 6 p.m. at the Huntley Park District.
Since 2000, the village has been sponsoring the relay, which is made up of several participating teams from the area that include Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin and Woodstock. This will be the fourth year the Sun City team has taken part.
“We have always been the No. 1 team in fundraising and we hope to be number 1 again this year,” said Mary Lou Dorgan. The theme of this year’s relay is Disney. According to Dorgan, the Sun City team will don the Sun City Swashbucklers name from Pirates of the Caribbean.
The relay is open to everyone. There is a dinner and a special walk at the start of the event to honor all cancer survivors and their caregivers. All cancer survivors are encouraged to participate, but registration is necessary.
To join a team, to donate, or to participate in the survivor dinner, go to relayforlife.org/huntleyil or call the American Cancer Society at 630-879-9009.
All who read this article are welcome to come out on June 12 and join the Sun City Swashbucklers in honoring and supporting cancer victims and survivors.
“We always say we should do more charity work and this is a wonderful opportunity to do that,” Dorgan said.
