Huntley’s July 4 fireworks show has found a new home in Deicke Park.
Actually, it isn’t a new home, it’s a return to the place the show occupied a number of years ago.
Huntley village officials recently announced the relocation from the show’s former site near the Huntley Outlet Center at the south end of the community. According to Lisa Armour, assistant village manager, the launch site was moved because of the new Weber-Stephens global distribution center which was recently completed south of Freeman Road immediately east of the outlet center.
“Workers at Mad Bomber, the company that conducts our show, advised us that the outlet launch site was too close to the new Weber facility, and there was no safe zone in that area anymore,” Armour said. “So we talked to the Huntley Park District and we all agreed that Deicke Park is the best site. It also is more centrally located within the village.”
The fireworks show will begin at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
The show was launched at Huntley High School during the early days of Sun City, and then it was moved to Deicke and later to the outlet center. The new location will put the launch site closest to Sun City neighborhoods 7, 10, 10A, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 19 on the far northeast corner of the community. The show also will draw a large crowd to Deicke Park itself.
A park district spokesperson said the launch site is at the south end of Deicke near the Stingray Bay Aquatic Center.
