Dick Schimmel, a Korean War veteran and purple heart recipient, was honored in Washington D.C. on August 21. Before he left the house for the Honor Flight on August 20, a number of his neighbors secretly congregated at his house on Arlington Drive in Neighborhood 18 to recognize Dick for his contribution to our freedom by sending him off with much fanfare. This was a surprise for Dick and he was delighted to see so many friends wish him a good trip and congratulate him on his service. In the group picture taken by Holly Veach, Dick and his wife Sue may be seen in the first row in front of the large American flag.
