And now for another âbehind the scenesâ biography. I want to introduce all the people who are volunteering every day to keep us on the air. Youâve met our Executive Director, Allen Pollack, and our Chief Engineer, Jim Carollo. Now, I have to confess – and this is a little embarrassing because I have to tell you about me. I have been behind the scenes ever since the day that Allen Pollack told me about his idea for a community radio station. He came to me because he knew I had worked in television, and had been the Executive Director for 17 years of the Centre East Performing Arts facility in Skokie. He asked me if I could join him in his quest to get a radio station for Huntley. I always loved starting new projects, so I said âyes.â That was seven ago, and Iâm still doing it and am very proud of what we have accomplished. When we began streaming on the internet, he asked me to develop programs for the station, and Iâve continued in that role. When we began FM broadcasting, we kept increasing the number of programs until we now broadcast 44 different talk and discussion shows, along with all kinds of music. I also write the radio column for the Sun Day newspaper and prepare the full page monthly ad in the âLifestyleâ magazine. I serve on the board and host my own show âGetting to Know Youâ. I was happily married to Al Litwin for over 60 years and we have four sons and six grandchildren. Al was a CPA in private practice and, sadly passed away in 2011.
Before I was married, I worked on the crew of television station WBKB, operating equipment and developing programming. At the time, there were only three TV station in the whole country. After WW2, radio stations around the country began getting television licenses, and as I was one of the early âexpertsâ, called upon to help. I went to work at Milwaukeeâs station WTMJ-TV and later at Cincinnatiâs station WKRC-TV as a film director. I also directed live programs.
When Skokie had to close one of its three high schools because of declining enrollment, I started Centre East for the Performing Arts in that empty school After 17 years as the Executive Director of Centre East, I retired and joined my husband and sons in a restaurant delivery business. When that business was sold, we moved to Sun City and you know the rest of the story.
In future introductions, I want you to meet these other volunteers who donate their time and expertise keeping us on the air. Some are Bill Geheren, Scott Chamberlain, Eric Bentley, Ann Knipp, Ken Czerwinski. BobYeoman and more. Until the next time, remember TUNE IN 101.5 FM. Weâre on all the time.
