Welcome back to Loughren

New executive director has history in Sun City

By Dwight Esau

First Service Residential, Sun City’s management company, didn’t have to go far to find a new executive director for our community.

FSR conducted a national search for a replacement for the recently resigned Lauren Lee, and wound up getting a contact from an adult community executive in Lake Barrington Shores (LBS), just 20 miles east of Sun City. She is Deanna Loughran (pronounced like Longren) who is returning to Sun City. Many Sun Citians may remember that she served as director of governance and standards from 2003 to 2010. That post is now held by Beth Fudala.

Loughran has served as Lake Barrington Shore’s executive director for the last five years. She will begin her new work in Huntley on October 12.

Loughran is a 12-year veteran of adult community management at LBS and Sun City. She was one of three finalists recommended to the board of directors by FSR.

“Her talent and record was most impressive, and her background here was a plus,” said board member Bill Ziletti.

The feeling is mutual.

“Sun City is a special place to me,” Loughran told the Sun Day last week. “I developed my passion for community management here. It is my goal to support the board of directors and guide our management services to enhance the lifestyle of every homeowner at Sun City.”

A native of Harvard, Illinois, where she still lives, Loughran earned an associates degree from Elgin Community College in applied studies, paralegal, and is a licensed community manager. She earned a Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation from the Community Association Managers International Certification Board.

Lake Barrington Shores is a gated condominium community comprised of 1,317 units. It is governed by 13 condo associations and one master association.

“There are about 65 volunteer board members and many other volunteers active in the commission structure, similar to the Sun City board-appointed committees,” she said. LBS is not a 55-and-over community and includes residents of all ages.

One of the largest projects she has presided over is a $4.5 million renovation of the Lodge at the Shores, now under construction. When completed, the facility will have a ballroom, fireplace lounge, clubroom, library, and fitness facilities. Additionally, there are indoor and outdoor pools, marina and lake, tennis courts, paddleball courts, bocce ball courts, and a forest preserve.

Loughran and her husband, Phil, have three daughters: Ellen is a speech therapist in the Crystal Lake public schools, Anna is a registered nurse at a Brookfield, WI hospital, and Kate is a sophomore at Harvard High School.

Perhaps Loughran’s familial responsibilities will make her Sun City duties look like a breeze.

“Kate loves to play volleyball and is excited about getting her driver’s permit,” Loughran said. “Her father and I are sure we will have more gray hair when we finish teaching her how to drive.”
