Here we are at the end of the year. Well, almost. But as we say goodbye to 2015, we look forward to the new year and more exciting programs being developed.
It’s been a great year for us; the first year as a full low-power, licensed FM station. We added many new shows, trained new volunteers, and began a new service. We even began live remote coverage of the Huntley High School football games!!!
In the past reports, we’ve been reminding you of some of our 40-plus shows you might enjoy. Here are a few more:
We’ve been broadcasting the Centegra Health System Physician Lectures for over two years. Each lecture is presented by an outstanding medical specialist and subjects can vary from ovarian cancer, carpal tunnel, kidney stones, colon health, sports injuries and many more. Best of all, you don’t need to catch these programs live. You can go to our website, Huntleyradio.com, maneuver to our podcasts, and listen to all of the lectures. These Physician Lectures can also be heard Monday through Friday from 2-3 p.m.
If you’re a lover of classical music, you should join the Listener’s Club of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. It’s easy and there’s no membership fee. Just tune in on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 5 p.m. and you’re a member. Listen to Jim Kendros and Wendy Evans familiarize yourselves with music from their upcoming concerts, learn about the composers, the Symphony musicians, and so much more.
And if nostalgia is your thing, we give you “Rick’s Radio Roots.” It’s a collection of old time radio shows brought to you by host Rick Haggerty Travel back to the days when there were no TV sets, computers, or iPods, but when you still pictured in color and high definition listening to “Fibber McGee and Molly,” “The Falcon,” or “Life With Luigi.” Tune into 101.5 FM on Mondays and Fridays from 3-4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3-3:30 p.m. Rick has hundreds of these great old shows to share with you.
And now another look “behind the scenes” of station WHRU. We’re pleased to introduce one more of our wonderful volunteers, Bill Geheren, or “Sir William,” as he likes to be called. He is one of the most prolific volunteers our station has had the privilege of knowing. Not only is he the producer, writer, and co-host of “2 Dudes and the Duchess”, he also produces and hosts “3 Guys Walk into a Bar,” “Huntley Radio Morning News,” and “Huntley Radio Evening News.” In addition, Bill serves on our Executive Board andi is our Director of Marketing. Could there be more? There is! Bill works full-time as the Director of Sales for Heritage Woods in Huntley, an assisted living community.
Looking ahead to 2016, we all at Huntley Radio, wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. And when you’re making your New Year Resolutiions, make one more to remind you to tune into 101.5FM and enjoy many hours of great radio.
