Question: I would like to put something on the floor of our shower to make it less slippery. Is there a tape or a paint that that is made for this?
Answer: There is a non-slip spray material made by SlipDoctors that is for fiberglass, acrylic and other surfaces. One of the Woodchucks recently had this product applied to the floor of his shower and is very happy with the results.
Here are the instructions that come with the product:
1. Clean the bathtub or shower, removing all soap, oils, hair and other containments.
2. Completely dry the tub or shower prior to application.
3. Open all windows and vents for proper ventilation.
4. Optional: sand surface lightly with fine (220 grit) sandpaper to promote good adhesion. Remove all residue prior to application.
5. Tape off application area with masking tape.
6. Use painter’s paper to protect surrounding areas from over spray.
7. Shake the spray can for 2-3 minutes. Spray in a sweeping motion over the area to be treated. Wipe up any overspray with a towel.
8. If a second coating is desired, apply 30 minutes after the first. (One coat is preferred)
9. Slowly remove all tape and paper shortly after application. If you pull too fast on a porcelain bathtub, you may remove the glaze.
10. Allow the product to fully cure for 24 hours before use.
I included the directions so you could decide if you want to apply the non-slip spry material yourself or hire someone to do it. The Woodchuck who told me about this product hired one of the companies that advertises in the Sun City Lifestyles magazine, Larry’s Home Maintenance, to do his. He commented that he was glad he did. The job was more complicated than he thought it would be and Larry has done this before so he was very well prepared and very professional.
